13/Puppet Shop

Written on 3rd June 2010

I said i wouldnt put photos up here again, only drawings. Oh well! I have been meaning to use this photo in a painting since I took it, but as I havent got round to it yet, the photo will have to do. It is a puppet shop in Paris, on one of the beautiful islands in the middle of the river, with little boutiques and flower markets on them.

I love this shop- dozens of mildly sinister but gorgeously painted puppets hanging from the ceiling, and the treasury cavey darkness of the shop. They do not overdo neon in Paris shops.

I like how taken my dad is with the window in this photo. Does he really want a puppet? Or is he just politely waiting for me to finish taking my photo? Probably...

When I paint it I will exaggerate his bent posture and old coat, and the gaudiness of the puppets. It will be a masterpiece.
