5/To do

Written on 25th March 2010

I suppose it is wilful timewastery to photograph my to-do lists rather than actually do them. These are marvellous notebooks though- they decant my brain clutter into desk clutter and keep me sane. It is amazing how much admin it seems to take for me to do very little; but I like to do my very little in a rational and linear sort of way.

The spirally ones are for work-work. The one with the swirly picture is scented horribly of violets and has lists of publishers who might look favorably upon my drawings. I dont like that one- its emergence means much effort, and stamps, and disappointment is to follow. The black one is storyboards, and miscellaneous quotations. Thin red one: current to-do lists, shopping lists and a bit of a diary for the two days this year which have been exciting enough to record. Really thin one- more storyboards. Stripy one- beautifully blank and full of potential; therefore slightly too threatening to begin. Red marbelled notebook- the best one, with no lists or bossy notes-to-self, but with poems in and stories. The top two- pink: for an ongoing project, and red: current illustration to-do lists, complicatedly cross-referenced with all the other notebooks. I need approx three of these every morning, to remind me what I am supposed to be doing. Which reminds me- what was I supposed to be doing...?
